Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival 2011 was the busiest ever in the history of the event.

Visitors to the festival, which took place in St George’s Square and the Byram Arcade, nearly topped 100,000 over the course of the four days.

With many stallholders commenting that it was the most successful food and drink event they’ve been at this year - anywhere in the country.

A live TV broadcast from BBC Look North meant that Saturday was the busiest festival day ever, with visitors coming from all over the region.

The Guardian newspaper’s website featured a list of top 10 recommended delights, which, along with live radio coverage, and a buzz of social media activity, inspired many more to visit.

Simon Hirst, from Hinchliffes Farm Shop and Restaurant, said "It's been a great opportunity for us and we are extremely proud to have been the main sponsors.”

2011 Festival Exhibitor Quotes
Angus Ferguson, Demijohn
"We feel very privileged to be at this festival, we go to food festivals all over Britain and this is certainly in the top five. It's a brilliant event for Huddersfield and for Yorkshire, if you're a foodie person you have to come!"

Allison Whitmarsh, ProperMaid
"This has been our busiest festival ever, we sold over 570 slices of cake in one day! It just gets better and better, I even have my own fan club who come to my demos each year!"

Louise Holme, Yummy Yorkshire
" This is the best festival we attend, best organised and best atmosphere - we look forward to it every year. Being on BBC Look North was great, we had huge queues the next day!"

Wayne Roddis, Mustard and Punch
"It's the first time we've ever done a festival like this and we will be back! We had no idea it would be so busy, our braised pigs cheeks have gone down a storm - we sold over 800 in 3 days!"

Keiron Gould, Pizzatainment
"It's been absolutely fantastic for raising our profile and we'd love to come back next year, if you'll have us! We've helped well over 350 children to make and cook their own pizzas - and hopefully inspired them to have a go at home too!"
